What if one of the most divisive children's books of all time became a by-the-numbers horror film? Let's find out.
The Giving Tree is one of those books that most children love outright while adults obsess endlessly over its hidden meaning. Is it an allegory about God, man's relationship with nature, friendship or the relationship between parent and child? And is it, ultimately, a happy story or a sad one? But no one ever considered it to be a horror story.
Shel Silverstein is probably rolling in his grave right now. But we can't help but find this take pretty appropriate. The kid takes the tree's apples, her branches, but does she get any thanks? No! So we get that desire for vengeance.
Now if only trees could open doors.
