If, like the rest of the TV-viewing world, you've been binge-watching a lot of Mindhunter lately, you might have experienced a goddamn breath of fresh air right around Episode 3. That powerhouse in human form is none other than Australian actress Anna Torv, who plays Dr. Wendy Carr and whose job is to basically try to wrangle two FBI agents while they go out and interview serial killers.
Did you recognize her name when it popped up in the credits? That's a good sign. It means you're likely a fan of the now-concluded Fringe, which ran for a total of five seasons on FOX (2008-2013). Torv starred as the enigmatic Agent Olivia Dunham (yep, she played yet another character linked to the F B of I, but I am totally all about this trend of ladies in law enforcement).
Also, did you notice the word choice there? Starred. She was the show's female lead and she was an absolute badass on a show that ran on a major network.
And as for Olivia Dunham? She had paranormal abilities and she wound up becoming the guardian of the freaking universe!
(She also had an alternate-universe version of herself which the show took to calling "Fauxlivia," mostly because she wasn't our Olivia, but we couldn't help but secretly love her anyway. THOSE BANGS.)
For these and many other reasons, it is a total travesty that there are apparently folks out there who have gotten Torv confused with another actress while watching Mindhunter. If that's the case, it means they slept on Fringe -- which is the saddest thing of all.
And just so we're clear: No, that is not Carrie Coon in Mindhunter. It is not Caitriona Balfe. It is Anna Torv, aka Agent Olivia Dunham/Fauxlivia, and YOU WILL KNOW HER NAME.
If you don't, now would be the perfect time for you to go back and watch Fringe. Thank me later.
