In the United States, today is the day some whimsically refer to as Turkey Day. And if you're celebrating Turkey Day, there is so much more to the day than roasted poultry and myriad side dishes smothered in gravy. We demand a certain hunk smothered in the gravy that was the '70s: Ben Murphy.
For many of us, we discovered this human pile of mashed potatoes thanks to Episode 814 of Mystery Science Theater 3000. The episode's film Riding With Death is actually two episodes of the failed '70s TV show Gemini Man starring none other than Ben Murphy as an off-brand bionic man who can become invisible at will and becomes a truck driver and also a race car driver and at one point a Kleenex explodes. It's not exactly shocking it failed, but it was also the '70s, so it really could have gone either way.
Ben Murphy is if a bowl of brown 'n serve rolls became sentient. He is green bean casserole in blandly attractive male form. He's like a ridged jar of cranberry sauce plopped out on a plate and started talking.
But above all else, he is the spokesman for turkey.
And on Turkey Day, a hallowed day among MSTies, there is no one we'd rather celebrate than Ben Murphy. Happy Thanksgiving. Rock it, you turkeys!
