Season 4 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is by and large a mixed bag. It gave us some of best moments of the entire series and its very worst Big Bad, as well as everyone's favorite if-a-potato-could-be-a-boyfriend, Riley. But one episode in particular is considered by most people to be a series worst: Episode 5, "Beer Bad."
Most people are wrong. Their opinion is bad and they should feel bad. Because "Beer Bad" is a delight. And most of that is due entirely to Sarah Michelle Gellar's delightfully bonkers performance as Caveperson Buffy.
LOOK AT HER. LOOK HOW HAPPY SHE IS IN THIS CHAIR.
Until the chair betrayed her. And then F*CK THIS CHAIR.
Gellar was always funny as Buffy, but she rarely got to do serious physical comedy and this episode had tons of it, and a glorious bonus of Baby Kal Penn with a very severe hair part.
But above all else, only Cave Slayer Buffy was able to get over one of the worst butthole boys in a long series of butthole boys, Parker. UGH. PARKER. And beyond getting over, she got to both punch him and hit him with a very large stick, AND he got denied and laughed at by Willow. Plus it has a valuable lesson.
