Chosen One of the Day: Drogon from Game of Thrones

I will be the first person to admit that until very, very recently, I wasn’t really a Game of Thrones fan. I had watched it because I felt like I had to for work. But something unexpected happened late last season: I found myself actually wanting to watch to see what happened next episode. Even more shocking was when I found myself somewhat invested in some of the characters this season. But there’s one character that has become the sole reason I absolutely have to watch each week: Drogon.

Yes, that CGI dragon has captured not just my heart, but the hearts of many. We all know dragons aren’t real, but that doesn’t stop any of us from wishing we had our very own fire-breathing, carnivorous, winged beast to ride across the sky and with which to take out the evil in the world.

Drogon’s always been the most precarious of Daenerys’ children, announcing his and his siblings arrival with a tiny roar when he was just minutes old.

He’s sassy, even with his mother, but like most favorite children he gets away with it (then again, most children aren’t capable of burning their parents to a crisp with their breath).  But the best part about Drogon, besides his being the most badass pet a person could possibly have, is when his dragon senses lead him to do something unexpected, like the heart-melting moment he had with Jon Snow.

Seriously, outside of pretty much anything involving the Stark children and their direwolves, name a moment that’s been even half as emotional and sweet. Drogon’s unprovoked interaction with Jon even had Dany thinking “WTF is happening?” So did Drogon sense that Jon Snow was who even he doesn’t know he is? Or is there something so unique about Jon Snow that an animal, even a dragon, can sense that he can be trusted? Honestly, I don’t even care. I just want to watch Drogon 24-7 on a dragoncam like I would my dogs while at doggy daycare. Admit it, you would 100% watch that, too.
