We all need a boost of motivation when times are hard. When we’re down on our luck and we're being held against our will on a military base in a strange desert and we’re tired and hungry and being used for genetic experimentation and we haven’t seen our other clones in what seems like forever. You know, relatable, classic experiences like that.
Sometimes you need a friend. Sometimes you need someone to look you in the eyes and tell you that you have been in worse situations before, that you are strong and capable, and gosh darn it, people LIKE YOU.
Then again, sometimes you need a real friend. Sometimes you need Pupok.
Pupok, with his (her? their? It’s unclear.) unabashed criticism and “tell it like it is” attitude. Pupok, who asks you if you cannot weather this storm, what is to separate you from literal garbage? Pupok, whose shiny black exoskeleton, large pincers, and terrifying, ever-present tail stinger remind you of all the trials and tribulations in life.
Sorry, did I forget to mention that Pupok is a scorpion?
After all, what better than a poison sting — and equally stinging snark — to serve as motivation for you to get off your ass and murder some boy clones? Spite is, after all, the best motivator.
Plus, when you finally do make your escape and the desert, and your gnawing hunger, threaten to tear you asunder, Pupok is there to serve as a tasty snack.
Or, you know, a snack, anyway. Where are those mangoes?
