"Show me that smile again / don't waste another minute on your clickin'..."
Spoilers below for Hereditary.
Life is hard. We all have struggles and strife. But when you lose your emotionally abusive mother and attend her stranger-filled funeral, and your house has a decapitated rotting corpse in it and you're having night terrors where you murder your son, what you really need is a smile. And Hereditary has smiles by the mile.
Of course, Hereditary is still in theaters, so I don't have images of these smiles. You'll simply have to see it for yourself. In the meantime, I will use the closest approximations to the smiles seen in the film.
When you're at your grandma's funeral, tongue-clickin' for the gods (or devils), you need a smile.
When you find a dead body in the attic, you need a smile.
When you are put inside your brother's body and made king of your grandma's devil cult full of naked-ass old people, you need a smile.
Because sure. Life is rough. But it's nothing you can't get through with the help of a warm, friendly, terrifying smile.
