Giant Mutated Sloth

Chosen One of the Day: the giant mutated sloth from Fallout 76

I'm a big Fallout fan. I didn't really start getting into the games until around Fallout 4, but I went back and played some of the preceding titles and quickly fell in love with the post-apocalyptic setting of Boston and the surrounding areas. For Fallout 76, which is technically a prequel game, developer Bethesda Studios has revealed that players will have a chance to explore the new territory of wild, wonderful West Virginia — and all of the equally wild critters running around.

Nuclear radiation changes people. It can change you, if you're not careful. But one teased image from the Fallout 76 trailer and subsequent gameplay videos has revealed a change like no other — and that is the Giant Mutated Sloth. (Technically, these go by "mega sloths" in the game, but let me have this.)

As far as I know, the Giant Mutated Sloth is not a friendly creature, and to that I have a plea for Bethesda: please, y'all. This has been a dumpster fire of a year already. Can we, if nothing else, have the option to make the Giant Mutated Sloth our ally? Last game we had a dog sidekick (dubiously named "Dogmeat"). How unbelievably cool would it be if we could upgrade our BFF to a giant freaking sloth?!

I'm not asking for much. Just a chance to make a new best friend. And I want that best friend to be a Giant Mutated Sloth.

I mean, look at him! He's kind of cute with his little smile and his... glazed-over stare and his... giant eviscerating claws.

Okay, maybe it's a good thing he can't move that fast.
