The annual Gallifrey One convention in Los Angeles is one of the biggest events in Doctor Who fandom every year, and this year was no exception. Attendees were treated to not just one but two Doctors, Sylvester McCoy and David Bradley, as well as the recently departed showrunner Steven Moffat expertly handling some less than polite fandom questions. One of the major highlights of the con this year was an absolutely intense discussion among many of the women involved in the show, like director Rachel Talalay, writer Rona Munro, and costume designer Haley Nebauer, to name a few, that organically developed into a series of intense emotional #MeToo stories. Plus, series composer Murray Gold performed a musical event highlighting the scores of the show for the last 10 seasons.
But all of that pales in comparison to the hands-down highlight of the con: this little girl running around dressed as Jodie Whittaker's upcoming 13th Doctor.
The little girl, Piper (named after former Doctor Who companion Billie Piper), was the talk of the con. As legions of Doctor Who fans sat in conference rooms talking about the past, present, and future of the show, she served as an immediate reminder that the future is already here.
The con wasn't the only place that Piper set on fire in her costume (sewn by costume maker Emily Blake); she blew up social media as well:
Jodie might want to watch her back ...
But Piper was far from alone among the would-be Whittakers present at the con. She found a few friends.
And because every Doctor needs companions, and the importance of representation doesn't stop at just white women, fans of Season 10 companion Bill Potts came out in full force as well. (And if you think you've spotted SYFY Fangrrls' very own Tai Gooden, you are correct!)
