The X-Files is returning for Season 11 in 2018, and there's one question on everyone's mind. OK, maybe two questions. First, are our OTP Mulder and Scully going to make out and secondly, will Scully finally get her own desk?
Way back in 1993, Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) met for the first time over Mulder's desk.
So yes, this desk holds a special place in our fangirl hearts. But in the 10 seasons and two movies since, Mulder's desk and Scully's lack of designated workspace has become a subtle sign of the underappreciation of Scully. It's probably no coincidence that Anderson has worked toward #JusticeForScully behind the scenes of the show as well. Twice she had to fight to be paid the same as Duchovny.
And then, there is
Scully has sacrificed her safety, happiness, and even her only child to serve Mulder's fight against aliens or government conspiracy (or maybe it's aliens, again?) on The X-Files. She even stuck around for that last season when Mulder took off, taking his desk AND immediately giving her new partner his own desk, because Scully knows what it's like to be disrespected in the most disrespected office in the FBI (that's like double disrespect). But Scully has never really had her own desk in the crappy basement office (which, let's face it, has plenty of space). And oh, have people noticed.
But since creator Chris Carter has had plenty of time to fix this oversight and hasn't (yet another reason why maybe the show needs some female writers?), a co-working and community space for women called The Wing decided to finally give Scully exactly what she deserves -- an entire office of her own.
So as Gillian says in the tweet below: "F*ck the desk."
Even though Scully doesn't have a desk in the actual X-Files office, at least she finally has somewhere in the universe to go to get away from Mulder and his pencil-tossing distraction.
Other things we hope Scully includes in her brand-new office? Windows, her own collection of posters (maybe Mulder can get her her very own "I want to believe" poster from that place on M Street, which Scully can put in a corner and take out only when Mulder visits, like those gifts you get from your in-laws), one of those weird birds wearing top hats that dunks its nose in water for reasons we've never quite understood, an endless supply of non-fat Tofutti Rice Dreamsicles.
And, you know, one of those teeny tiny all-in-one desks you used in grade school for the inevitable moment Mulder decides he should just use this office too, since it's much nicer than the basement and hey, where is his desk?
