The film is said to be about “one family’s fight for survival in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster.” Although there’s no word yet on when Greenland is scheduled to be released, production is set to begin later this year. Anton and Thunder Road Pictures are co-producing the film.
“When we read Greenland, we knew it was exactly the sort of film we wanted to make as we build the Anton brand — smart, character driven genre with action and heart,” said Sébastien Raybaud, CEO of Anton and executive producer of the film, in a statement.
Evans is currently in Avengers: Infinity War, which continues to break box-office records. The Captain America actor has recently suggested that Infinity War’s follow-up, Avengers 4, may very well be the last time audiences will see him play the patriotic and nigh-indestructible Steve Rogers, telling The New York Times: “You want to get off the train before they push you off.”
Blomkamp, whose District 9 immediately put him on critics’ and fans’ radars, has recently been focusing more on short films. He was also previously slated to helm a new film in the Alien franchise, but left that project.
