Chris Hemsworth is the obvious choice for Thor, right? Turns out that's not how the story goes.

Chris and Liam Hemsworth are both successful actors, so, while they may be brothers, it's inevitable that they'd come into some kind of competition over acting roles, right?

Well, it already happened, and with the character that made Chris a star, no less -- Thor!

I know, Jane Foster. I know ...

Not only was Liam up for the god of thunder, but he'd easily outpaced his brother and was among the final actors up for the part. Chris reveals the full backstory:

I auditioned for 'Thor,' and I didn't get called back. I was intimidated by the director, Kenneth Branagh. To me, he is Shakespeare. My brother, Liam, was luckier. He was one of the final five guys up for the part.

Le gasp! But, as it turns out, none of the final five actors quite fit the bill. So Chris's manager seized the opportunity and reached out, saying, "'If you liked Liam, maybe you'll also like his older brother."

So what changed the second time? Chris says, "I was pissed off. I didn't care about Shakespeare anymore; swagger got me the part."

Well if you're going to play a cocky, headstrong god, that'll do the job.

Still, we can't help but imagine the two brothers switching careers. Liam is Thor, which would make Chris Gale Hawthorne in the Hunger Games. How would you feel about that, Jennifer Lawrence?

Thought so.
