Although not everything appears to be awesome in the LEGO universe for the upcoming sequel to The LEGO Movie (in fact, things look quite post-apocalyptic in the new trailer), star Chris Pratt dropped some awesome news about The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part during Saturday morning's Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con.
After being asked by a fan if his character Star-Lord from the Guardians of the Galaxy films would appear in LEGO Movie 2, Pratt neither confirmed nor denied. However, it was later revealed at the panel that in addition to reprising his role of Emmet from the first movie, Pratt would also be playing a second role: that of Rex Dangervest, which is a pastiche of roles that he's played in other films.
Described as an adventurer and "raptor trainer," Rex is essentially a mashup of previous roles that Pratt has played, such as Owen Grady from Jurassic World. So, in a sense, it's very likely that Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, could appear in The LEGO Movie sequel through this new character.
In the sequel, an alien named General Mayhem invades LEGO World (which is now a post-apocalyptic wasteland), and kidnaps Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) and a whole bunch of other Master Builders.
In addition to Pratt and Banks, Will Arnett (Batman), Nick Offerman (MetalBeard), Alison Brie (Princess Unikitty), Charlie Day (Benny the Spaceman), Channing Tatum (Superman), and Jonah Hill (Green Lantern) return to voice their original characters. Newcomers to the cast include Tiffany Haddish as Queen Whatevra Wanabi, Stephanie Beatriz as Sweet Mayhem, and Arturo Castro as Ice Cream Cone.
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part assembles into theaters on Feb. 8, 2019.
