Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy return in new trailer for Resident Evil: Vendetta

Capcom has released a new action-packed English-speaking trailer for their upcoming Resident Evil movie, Resident Evil: Vendetta. The latest entry into the CG movie franchise (which has nothing to do with the Milla Jovovich live-action films) is set in the same universe as the video games.

Resident Evil: Vendetta (or Biohazard: Vendetta, if you prefer the Japanese title) sees the return of fan favorites Leon S. Kennedy (who's been in all three movies) and Chris Redfield, with Rebecca Chambers making her long-awaited return. Vendetta is the third film in Capcom’s CG zombie movie franchise, the first one being 2008’s Resident Evil: Degeneration followed by Resident Evil: Damnation in 2012.

The events of Resident Evil: Vendetta take place after Resident Evil 6 (the game) and will feature a new threat in the form of one Glenn Arias, who’s described as a “merchant of death.” Arias plans to unleash a terrorist attack by using the Trigger Virus (T-Virus) on New York City, and it looks like Chris and Leon will have their work cut out for them to stop Arias' nefarious plans. The trailer below is a mix of pure RE horror with high-octane action (zombies! explosions! motorcycle chases! horrifying mutated monsters!), and I have to admit that it succeeded in making my interest in the new movie rocket sky-high.

A co-production between Capcom and Marza Animation Planet, Resident Evil: Vendetta is helmed by Takanori Tsujimoto (Ultraman X) from a screenplay by Makoto Fukami (Psycho-Pass). It is slated for a May 28 release in Japan. Hopefully, it’ll find its way in North America sooner rather than later.
