They say you should always strike while the iron is hot, but we guess that sometimes you have to strike while Mjolnir is hot—because after Chris Hemsworth is done wielding Thor's mighty hammer, he may start swinging the executioner's ax as the notorious Huntsman in Snow White and the Huntsman.
Variety has reported that Hemsworth is considering the juicy title role in director Rupert Sanders' big-budget retelling of the Snow White legend for Universal. It's the second project in the works using the Brothers Grimm fairy tale as source material. (Do we really need both? People must just love movies about virginal women and tiny miners with questionable housekeeping skills.)
This makes Hemsworth something like the 71st actor to be considered for the part, joining Viggo Mortensen and Hugh Jackman in the long list of possible choices. Mortensen and Jackman eventually dropped out after script issues, failed contract negotiations and conflicting schedules.
Considering Thor's thunderous overseas opening last weekend, with a gross of $83 million, Hemsworth's star power has just risen by a magnitude or two ... or three! It's no wonder drooling executives are viewing the world through blonde-colored glasses this week.
If he does decide to don the hooded cloak and sign on the dotted line, Hemsworth will appear opposite Kristen Stewart as the pale-skinned heroine and Charlize Theron playing the Wicked Witch/Evil Queen. Filming is set to begin this summer, with an eye toward a Christmas-time release.
Casting is always a tricky tightrope walk, often being the deciding factor to a film's flight or flop. Hemsworth seems to have the perfect blend of charisma and brawn to tackle the Huntsman role and catapult him to further fame. Nothing is set, but it could be a nice fit.
So what do you think? If the sight of a luscious red apple brings you to your knees, take a swing at this casting rumor and mount your case for or against the Aussie actor.
