Nostalgic for the days when Scooby-Doo was all about the goofy crossovers and character mashups?
If so, you’re not alone. Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment are joining forces to present Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold, an all-new movie slated for a direct-to-DVD and digital release early next year.
The idea owes as much to Batman’s crossover roots as to Scooby’s. For three years, the Cartoon Network’s “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” united the Caped Crusader with a stable full of other DC superheroes in order to stamp out crime and injustice in a decidedly more lighthearted fashion than what we’ve come to expect from the franchise’s recent treatment on the big screen.
That TV series ended in late 2011. But, as both franchises’ creators know, the allure of pairing a crime-solving Great Dane and his human sidekicks with do-gooders from the outside world is too great to resist for long. And from the look of this debut trailer posted today by IGN, the jovial spirit of the older crossover treatments will be very much alive and well in Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
According to IGN, the film’s scheduled for a Jan. 9, 2018, release. Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy are reportedly all on board (of course!), as are a boatload of familiar villains and heroes — from Joker and the Riddler to Aquaman and Plastic Man.
Disappointingly, though, it's still a ... mystery ... as to whether we’ll be treated to any offbeat cameos from KISS, the Harlem Globetrotters, or Dick Van Dyke.
