If you thought The CW was turning into the all-superheroes-all-the-time network, think again. It’s also aiming big with a high-concept outbreak drama that makes us want to put on a medical mask.
Dubbed Containment, the series is set in Atlanta (home of the CDC) and follows a deadly virus that rips the city apart and leaves thousands dead. It also leads to a massive quarantine that cuts the city into pieces and leaves those trapped inside the affected zone to fight for their lives. The trailer looks fantastic, and the cast boasts genre alums Claudia Black (Farscape) and David Gyasi (Interstellar).
On the creative side, the show comes from CW darling Julie Plec (The Originals, The Vampire Dairies). The series is a rare bird for The CW, and actually comes off as an adult-aimed drama that doesn’t fit with the network’s typical fare of supernatural dramas and straight-up sci-fi fare. Judging by the footage here, that’s a good thing.
The CW is looking to branch out, and if this show is as good as the trailer makes it look, count us in.
Containment is slated as “coming soon” to The CW. Will you check it out?
