The first season of Syfy’s 12 Monkeys was one of the biggest surprises of 2015, weaving a smart and twisty thriller more than worthy of sharing the name of the 1995 cult classic. So how do you follow that up?

A new trailer for Season 2 has arrived, which shows off the aftermath of last season’s twist ending and gives us a peek at where (or more accurately, when) some of the action will be headed once the series returns. It seems Cole and Cass are heading to the 1940s, with all the period attire and hard-boiled stylings you could ask for.

In a brilliant move, the second season looks to turn Year One on its head, with Cassandra heading back from the future (where Cole sent her at the end of last season, after she was injured) to pick up Cole and continue their mission. It seems that journey to the post-apocalypse has had a profound impact on Cassandra, and it should flip the dynamic in a fascinating way this year. Plus, that 1940s setting looks like the pulpy time-travel adventure we never knew we wanted.

Seriously, if you're not watching this show, now is the perfect time to catch up. Stream it, binge it, whatever. Just get there. Much like Orphan Black over on BBC America, this is also one of the best sci-fi shows you're probably not watching
