Pop-up, pop culture theme bars are all the rage right now. In the past few months, we have seen themed bars for properties such as Twin Peaks, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, and of course, Star Wars.
One of the first in this recent crop of pop culture pop-ups was the Scum and Villany cantina, a Star Wars bar in Los Angeles that was so popular it was made a permanent fixture. But if the Rebellion isn't your thing, maybe you would have a better time going to The Dark Side.
The new Dark Side Bar is popping up for a very limited time in Los Angeles, New York, and D.C. The bar promises a "truly immersive Galactic experience" and nightly experiences that include an "intergalactic burlesque show featuring performers from many different planets" and "alien speed dating." The bar will also feature small bites that vary by day and location, but two examples they offer are Tentacles on Sticks (soy BBQ glazed octopus skewers) and Bantha Fodder (vegan egg rolls).
The main attraction of any bar is the drinks, and the Dark Side Bar is no exception. Gia Farrell, the club's mixologist, came up with six unique drinks to showcase the bar's unique feel.
"I knew that I wanted something dark for the galaxy," says Farrell. "So I found a black vodka, which was really fun to work with. I also really like working with different colored sanding sugars and dry ice and fire. It really creates show for the customer."
The Dark Side Bar is open through mid-January. Reservations are encouraged but not required.
