Apparently the new best way to star in a Peter Jackson joint is to admit you don't like The Hobbit or its fans.

Billy Connolly is an actor, a banjo player, a comedian and a Scot. But a fan of The Hobbit? Nah, he's not.

And yet, despite that surprising fact, Connolly will be playing the dwarven Dain in The Hobbit: There and Back Again. How, you ask? Well, it turns out your mother was right -- honesty really is the best policy, as Conolly revealed in an interview with Conan.

"Have you read The Hobbit?"

"No, and I don't like people who have."

And that, ladies and gentleman, is how he got the part. Of course, I imagine Connolly's ability to grow a beard helped. And his acting talent may have factored in, too, I guess.
