Comic conventions are, in a nutshell, big money-makers. From vendors selling their geekiest designs to artists making commissioned art to fans putting up cash for autographs and photos with their favorite celebs — if you were planning on staging a heist, a con would be right up there in terms of a sheer cash grab.
That seems to be what inspired the upcoming comedy Supercon, which follows four friends as they team up to take down a former '80s television star who tries to have them fired and banned from a convention. Their solution? Rob the con, of course.
Several of the cast members are no strangers to the convention circuit IRL. True Blood's Ryan Kwanten stars as cartoon voice-over actor Matt, with LOST's Maggie Grace as comic book artist Allison. Aqua Teen Hunger Force's Brooks Braselman plays '80s television star Brock, and comedian Russell Peters rounds out the main quartet as former child star Keith. Clancy Brown (Daredevil, The Shawkshank Redemption, Highlander) will star as Keith's obnoxious former co-star and a con headliner, who the four friends try to bring down. Mike Epps and John Malkovich also star.
Supercon will be released in theaters and on VOD and Digital HD on Apr. 27. Watch the official trailer above, then let us know what you think!
