Did AMC accidentally confirm Dark Knight Rises prologue release?

Last week we mentioned that you might be lucky enough to see the first few minutes of The Dark Knight Rises if you're willing to shell out for an IMAX ticket to Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol in December. Yesterday AMC Theaters confirmed it, then retracted their confirmation. Is it really happening?

Yesterday AMC Theaters posted on their official blog that the first six minutes of Christopher Nolan's Batman epic will indeed appear in front of IMAX screenings for Ghost Protocol, but added one little catch:

"AMC Theatres can confirm that this footage will be shown in front of Ghost Protocol on December 16th. (Ghost Protocol will release in IMAX five days before its general release on the 21st of December.) However ... The six minute Dark Knight Rises prologue footage will only be shown on the higher resolution 70mm IMAX screens. Not the digital IMAX screens."

So, not only will you have to pay extra for IMAX, but you'll have to make sure you can find a 70mm IMAX theater. That's a tough break, but we'll survive.

If you go to the same AMC blog today, this is what you find in place of that quote:

"The information in this post has been retracted until further notice.

"Please refer to Warner Bros. for any information about The Dark Knight Rises."

Warner Bros. has yet to make any official statements regarding the Dark Knight Rises prologue screenings, so what happened here? Did AMC jump the gun on their big announcement because they were excited about selling more IMAX tickets? How will Warner Bros. react, especially considering they were probably the ones who asked AMC to remove the information in the first place? Did this whole prologue screening thing just get put in jeopardy?

Probably not, because this preview would mean lots of holiday ticket sales, and at IMAX prices, but for now all we can do is wait for some official word.
