The Martian is easily one of the most anticipated science fiction films in recent memory and could be the next great film from director Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner). The trailers for this film, which tells the story of a lone astronaut trying to survive on the Red Planet after the rest of his crew is forced to leaved him behind, have been dazzling, and now we have the first clip from the film to get us even more excited.

In case you haven't been following along, The Martian -- adapted from Andy Weir's novel -- is the story of Mark Watney (Matt Damon), an astronaut who's presumed dead after a mission to Mars goes wrong. While the rest of his crew heads back to Earth, Watney must find a way to survive, engineering his own methods of food growth and other survival techniques while also trying to signal his crew that he's not dead yet. It's a harrowing story, and in the first clip we get to see how it starts.

In the clip, the Ares 3 astronaut team, already landed on Mars, is facing down a storm, a big one. Astronaut Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain) wants to evacuate, but Watney wants to wait things out. What follows is a journey out onto the planet surface that's essentially the beginning of the disastrous journey the film will take us on. It's quick, it's intense, and it's thrilling.

Here's hoping the rest of the film is this exciting.

The Martian arrives Oct. 2.
