As some of you may already know, I’m a huge fan of James Wan’s The Conjuring movies — especially The Conjuring 2, which saw the addition of the terrifying demonic nun haunting Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) to the franchise.
The character proved so popular with fans (she scared the heck out of me!) New Line ordered a spinoff titled The Nun, slated for a July 2018 premiere; and we have the first casting news.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Nun has landed Oscar-nominated actor Demian Bichir (A Better Life) to star in the movie penned by James Wan and Gary Dauberman (Annabelle, It, Annabelle: Creation), and directed by Corin Hardy (The Hallow).
Although plot details are being kept under wraps, we know that Bichir will play a priest named Father Burke who is sent to Rome to “investigate the mysterious death of a nun,” with filming set to kick off this summer in Romania.
Fun facts: The character of the nun was apparently a late addition to the movie. Wan reportedly added her during reshoots when he had a different idea for a demon. The nun is also the second Conjuring character to get her own spinoff film, the first one being that creepy evil doll Annabelle.
What do you think of Demian Bichir as a priest going toe-to-toe with The Nun on July 13, 2018?
