Last Friday, a phenomenal feat was accomplished at the Salt Lake City Comic Con when organizers corraled the largest number of approved costumed superheroes together to break the Guinness Book of World Records previous mark for assembled cosplayers. The old record of 1,530 for "Largest Gathering of Comic Book Characters" was held by China during the opening of its World Joyland theme park back in April of 2011.
“You can have the best organized record attempt, but the trick is getting people in the door. I’ve seen it happen time and time again,” Michael Empric, an official with Guinness World Record, told the Deseret News. “I know they have enough people attending the comic con. They just need them in the record attempt to count.”
Apparently, the rigid rules and specific requirements to qualify for this record are pretty strict and don't allow certain variations or mashups of cosplay superheroes, so this achievement is very impressive considering the obstacles involved. Bravo and congrats to all 1,784 fans involved!
