Could the Zygons finally be making a comeback in Doctor Who S7?

Whovians have been clamoring for a return of the Zygons—a classic '70s Doctor Who monster that looks like an overgrown orangey starfish with octopus suckers—for a while now. And a Doctor Who producer may just have dropped a few tiny hints that we may finally get our wish.

In an interview with Doctor Who executive producer Caroline Skinner about the free-to-play multiplayer game Doctor Who Worlds in Time, SFX asked if we might see the Zygons in the upcoming season seven of the hit sci-fi series, which is now currently filming in the U.K.

Her answer was simply: "Wait and see."

So, her answer's not exactly a resounding no, right?

We don't know about you guys, but we love the return of a good, classic Doctor Who villain. And the Zygons are definitely classic villains. They first appeared during the 1975 episode "Terror of the Zygons," then starring the beloved Fourth Doctor, played by Tom Baker.

Ever since the series was rebooted in 2005, we've seen the triumphant (and sometimes less triumphant) return of those lovely pepperpots the Daleks, Davros, the Cybermen (and the Cybermats), the Master, the Macra, the Sontarans and the Silurians, just to name a few.

The Ice Warriors even got a passing mention in one of the last David Tennant specials, "The Waters of Mars." It was enough to get the fan juices flowing.

The return of some classic Who villains from the '60s and '70s is something that has been bandied about for a while now. Back in January, we were teased that the Yeti might make an appearance during season seven, and even as early as this past Wednesday, it was confirmed that we'd get to see "some familiar foes as you've never seen them before."

Caroline Skinner also teased that episode one, written by Who showrunner Steven Moffat, was "going to blow everybody's mind," and that although not all of season seven's episodes have been written, "the ones that are written are really, really epic and very exciting."

We're definitely down with really, really epic. How about you? Let's just hope the road to the 50th-anniversary celebrations really pays off!

So do you guys think the Zygons will finally make their long-awaited return to Doctor Who? Or do you think it's just wishful thinking on our part? Are we seeing too much in Caroline Skinner's ''answer''?
