Paramount has yanked the brakes on that "reimagining" of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that no one seemed to want—aside from producer Michael Bay and original TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman—but it's not entirely dead. Yet.

It seems like the script problems that plagued Paramount's big-budget adaptation World War Z are contagious: According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has shut down Bay's alien-centric Turtles reboot "indefinitely" so that work can be done on the screenplay.

This new TMNT, which will be directed by Wrath of the Titans' Jonathan Liebesman, was supposed to come out next December ... but now Paramount is talking about a May 2014 release. If at all.

One has to assume that, at some point, Hollywood executives will realize that the script isn't merely a line item in a budget—that it's the one thing you need to get right before you do anything else or your house will collapse.
