A rumor started making the rounds this weekend that Benedict Cumberbatch would reunite with Star Trek into Darkness director J.J. Abrams as the villain in Star Wars VII. So, what does Cumberbatch’s reps have to say about the report?

Apparently, it’s not true, and must’ve gotten cranked up because the film is shooting in the U.K. (Cumberbatch’s homeland), and the fact that they got along so well on Into Darkness. Cumberbatch’s rep claims its all circumstantial, and Cumberbatch will definitely not be heading to a galaxy far, far away.

A spokesperson had this to say to NY Daily News:

“There is no truth to the rumour Benedict has been cast in Star Wars. I think the rumours are circling because J.J. and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on Star Trek.”

Of course, this could be an early denial because the deal isn’t closed yet, but let’s be honest — would Abrams really bring over the same actor to play a baddie in both Star Wars and Star Trek? The guy is a fantastic actor, sure, but there are also a lot of other great actors out there.

What do you think? Would you like to see Cumberbatch pull double duty as an intergalactic bad guy?
