Katana will hit Arrow next season, and she'll be played by someone who's already got some experience with a sword.

With each passing season the hit CW drama keeps infusing more DC Comics influence into its narrative. We've already got the likes of Black Canary, the Suicide Squad, Deadshot, Deathstroke and more on the show, and today we learned about another badass superheroine who'll join the gang this fall.

Deadline reports that Sin City star Devon Aoki will join Arrow as a recurring guest star, and that she'll play Tatsu Yamashiro, aka Katana.

Created by writer Mike W. Barr and artist Jim Aparo to join Batman's first Outsiders team in 1983, Katana is a martial-arts expert who takes her superhero name, naturally, from the sword she wields. After a rich comic-book history spanning nearly three decades, she joined DC's New 52 reboot (which launched in 2011) as a member of the Birds of Prey, then went on to join a new incarnation of the Justice League of America under the leadership of Amanda Waller (that group has disbanded as of this summer). Katana also landed her own self-titled solo series, which ran for 10 issues under writer Ann Nocenti, and featured the hero on a continued quest to find her husband's killers. She also recently appeared in an issue of Green Arrow, where it was revealed that her husband's fate and Green Arrow's origin are linked. She also appeared in the animated series Beware the Batman as Batman's sidekick.

On live-action television, Tatsu will appear in Arrow's flashback sequences and serve as a mentor to Oliver, likely during his stay in Hong Kong set up by the season-two finale. She's described as "a critical influence on his journey to eventually become The Arrow," and though we don't yet know how much screen time that will translate to for Aoki, we can't help but get excited at this casting. We can't wait to see her pick up a sword again.

Arrow returns on Oct. 8.
