We’d heard The CW’s The Flash would be expanding its cast in Season 2, and now they’ve officially added fan-fave DC character Wally West to the roster.
The studio has confirmed Keiynan Lonsdale, best known for his role as Uriah in Insurgent, has signed on to play Kid Flash/Wally West on the hit CW series. The character is set to make his debut this winter. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg likened the casting to that of Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, noting they “instantly knew” Lonsdale “embodied all the heart and courage” of Wally West.
Though we know who’ll be playing the role, we still don’t know (exactly) how Wally West will fit into the Arrow-verse canon. In the comics, Wally is the nephew of Iris West (played by Candice Patton in the series) and eventually becomes a speedster himself as Kid Flash (and eventually the full-fledged Flash for a while). That origin would make sense enough, though we’d imagine the TV version might see a tweak or two. Plus, will this version of Wally actually be a speedster, or just a supporting character? We don’t know.
It’s worth noting: The producers confirmed Wally West would be joining the series back at San Diego Comic-Con, along with the casting news that Teddy Sears would be playing the Golden Age version of The Flash, Jay Garrick.
What do you think of Lonsdale's casting? Good choice?
