The CW’s Supergirl has found its Man of Steel! Warner Bros. has announced that Tyler Hoechlin has been cast as Superman. The Teen Wolf star will don the red cape and make his eagerly anticipated debut at the beginning of the superhero series’ second season when the show moves from CBS to The CW in the fall.
Details of Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) cousin Kal-El’s involvement on the show are still being kept under wraps. The only thing that’s been revealed so far is that Clark would be “visiting” his cousin at the beginning of the season and that he would appear in the first two episodes. The character’s appearances had so far been limited to some fleeting obscure appearances on the show.
Here’s what Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in the casting announcement:
“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
Most fans here will know that Tyler Hoechlin played werewolf Alpha pack leader Derek Hale in the first four seasons of MTV’s supernatural series Teen Wolf. Personally, I think the casting rather spot-on, and I can’t wait to see what Hoechlin will bring to the table when Supergirl returns on Mondays in the fall on The CW. I'm sure he's going to rock the role.
What do you guys think of Tyler Hoechlin as the new Superman?
