Daisy Ridley is already gearing up to become a key player in the revamped Star Wars saga, but the actress has also developed a particular set of skills to go along with her alter ego in a galaxy far, far away.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Star Wars: The Force Awakens co-star Daisy Ridley recently participated in a press conference in Japan, where they chatted about all things Star Wars. It took a while, but some decent translations from the coverage has finally surfaced, and it reveals a very interesting tidbit about Ridley’s character Rey.
Turns out Ridley went through some extremely rigorous training in the bo-staff fighting style of Bõjutsu to give her character Rey the necessary skills to kick butt and take names (see: the staff she’s carrying in the photo below). Here’s what Kennedy had to say about the training regimen:
Daisy trained with the swordfight choreographer of Game of Thrones…She learned the bõjutsu fighting style. Rey uses the staff she has in the trailer to fight. Daisy’s gotten to be so good at bõjutsu that even grown men on the set fear it. [Laughs]
First off, that’s just awesome, and we can’t wait to see Ridley show off those mad skills on screen. Second, we know it should be legit, considering she was working with a trainer from Game of Thrones. Third, hmm — the guy was a sword-fighting trainer? Might we have some lightsaber battles from Rey in our future?
