Co-starring Spider-Man: Homecoming's Tom Holland, Rogue One's Mads Mikkelsen, and Sons of Anarchy’s Kurt Sutter, Lionsgate's upcoming film is based on Carnegie Award-winning author Patrick Ness’ YA dystopian book series. The saga includes The Knife of Never Letting Go (2008), The Ask and the Answer (2009), and Monsters of Men (2010).
Chaos Walking takes place on a far-off planet called New World where women have been rendered virtually extinct and the rest of the world has been affected by “The Noise,” a virus that afflicts all living things, making them hear and see each other's thoughts (except for Daisy Ridley’s character, Viola Eade), which of course drives some people mad along the way.
Holland stars as the movie’s young hero, Todd Hewitt, who flees his hometown with his faithful dog and crosses paths with Ridley’s Viola. Mikkelsen, who came on board the sci-fi movie this past July, will portray the mayor of Prentisstown, Todd’s former mentor and the film's villain. As for Sutter, he'll play Todd’s adoptive dad Cillian, who’s described as a hardworking farmer who makes the ultimate sacrifice to save Todd, despite their explosive relationship.
Liman took on the project — whose screenplay was penned by Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Jamie Linden (Money Monster), and Gary Spinelli (American Made) — in 2016 when 20th Century Fox ran into delays on Gambit. The director, who is set to make Edge of Tomorrow 2, officially dropped out of the Channing Tatum-starrer for DC's Justice League Dark, which he also exited earlier this year.
Chaos Walking is currently slated for a March 1, 2019, release. Check out the first BTS pic from the movie (which shows an almost unrecognizable blond-haired Daisy Ridley), and let us know what you think.
