Just when Reylo fans found themselves wondering if Kylo and Rey would be forever torn apart after the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Poe Dameron swooped in with that cool swagger to introduce himself to Rey.
Let's just say it opened up a whole new can of shipping questions within certain segments of the population.
Throughout the course of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, there have been questions about Rey and romance. Would she and Finn fall in love? Were Rey and Kylo going to team up in more ways than one? Can Rey resist Poe? When it comes to Rey, romance is a question that comes up.
While the fate of any of those romances remains a mystery, for now, Daisy Ridley has offered her opinion. In an interview with China's MTime, Ridley has another idea of just who she'd like Rey to romance.
In the video, which surfaced recently on Tumblr, Ridley had this to say...
"I haven't spoken to J.J. but... I did a film this year, too, that is not romantic. I think it's wonderful to have relationships that are not romantic. I don't think, in films, you always need a romantic relationship, and I think friend relationships can be romantic in their gestures, in their intimacy, in all of that. So, I think hopefully, y'know, if Rey and Poe get to have some scenes together, and stuff, there'll be intimacy. But I think it doesn't, for me, it doesn't have to be 'romantic' love."
Given the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it's possible Rey is headed in just that direction. Rose seems to have captured Finn's attention, and Poe doesn't seem like the kind of guy who's necessarily looking for romance (right now). Plus, if Rey is going to train as a Force user, it's possible she'll take the solitary route to focus on her training.
If the new trilogy is seeking to break the mold of the previous films, having the main female lead not be a romantic character would be a definite change of pace.
