Dark Ark #1: Weird animals are on parade in preview for Cullen Bunn's new saga

Back in June we relayed news of yet another cool Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun, Marvel's Monsters Unleashed, Wrath of Karza) comic project on the horizon called Dark Ark, this time one with a biblical twist. Sure, the Noah's Ark tale has been around since Babylonian times, but never with this type of horror element and meat-eating slaughter added to the flood.

Hailing from upstart AfterShock Comics, Dark Ark chronicles the voyage of a second secret ark with the odious wizard Shrae rounding up representations of God's most imperfect creatures and shoving them all inside a gigantic boat. With the inevitable clashes of these beings' mega-sized personalities, this provocative new monster project shakes things up and sees what happens!

Here’s the official synopsis:

The wickedness of mankind has moved the Creator to destroy the world by way of the flood. Noah has been tasked with building an ark to save his family and the animals of the world. But this is not Noah's story. For darker powers have commanded the sorcerer Shrae to build his own ark and save the unnatural creatures of the world — such as the vampires, the dragons, the naga, and the manticore. But what will happen on a vessel crawling with monsters, where insidious intrigue and horrific violence are the rule of law?

Written by Bunn and complemented by some fantastic art by Juan Doe (Wolverines, Resurrectionists), Dark Ark #1 floats into comic shops on Sept. 20.
