We waited nearly 15 years, but this summer we're finally getting a sequel to The Incredibles. Now, we know we're also getting some new comics to go with it.
Dark Horse Comics has just announced a pair of Incredibles 2 tie-in releases set to drop sometime later this year, coinciding with the return of the superheroic Parr family to our movie screens this June. The film, written and directed by Brad Bird, features Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) heading off to take part in a campaign that will restore "Supers" to prominence in the world, while Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) stays home with the kids. The comics, one an original graphic novel and the other a three-issue miniseries, will both focus on different aspects of daily life for the Parrs, while mixing in plenty of superheroics along the way.
Violet and Dash Parr will be the stars of the all-ages graphic novel, titled Incredibles 2: Heroes at Home, from writer Liz Marsham (Disney Princess Beginnings) and artist Nicolette Baldari (Star Wars Adventures: Forces of Destiny). While their parents are busy, the two elder Parr kids will attempt to take care of various chores, but even simple tasks like housework or a stop at the market can quickly spawn superheroic deeds. Plus, there's the ever-present issue of their younger brother Jack-Jack and his evolving powers.
The three issue miniseries will be titled Incredibles 2: Crisis in Mid-Life! & Other Stories, featuring work from writers Christos Gage and Landry Q. Walker and artists Gurihiru, J. Bone, Andrea Greppi, and Roberta Zanotta. That series will feature two stories told in parallel, one featuring a battle between Mr. Incredible and the supervillain Bomb Voyage (who you may remember from the first Incredibles film) and the other featuring a bedtime story about Mr. Incredible's glory days. Jack-Jack will also feature heavily in these issues, both as the receiver of the bedtime story and as the star of backup stories.
Incredibles 2: Heroes at Home is available for pre-order now and will be release June 12. Check out the cover for Crisis in Mid-Life! & Other Stories #1, on sale at comic book stores everywhere July 11, below.
