After Dave Bautista absolutely went off in his contract-threatening defense of embattled former Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, the small army of celebrities at Gunn’s back continues to grow. Today it adds actor and self-effacing campy cameo machine David Hasselhoff to its ranks.
Gunn, who was fired from the MCU franchise after Disney became aware of decades-old joke tweets about inappropriate and offensive subject matter, recently celebrated a birthday — and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 guest star Hasselhoff used the opportunity to make his stance on the subject known in his own tweet.
Take a look:
His statement, in which the actor says “I stand behind you,” is the latest show of support from an ever-increasing network of Marvel-adjacent actors and other Hollywood regulars. A fan petition to rehire the director has recently passed 370,000 signatures.
The third in the Guardians of the Galaxy series is still scheduled for a 2020 release date, but if a new director is found (or, somehow, if Gunn finds his way back to the movie after the serious delay and mud-dragging that his firing has caused), it might not stay that way.
