2000's X-Men gave us all a scare when it came to superhero movie costumes. Were we destined to see our favorite heroes in nothing but black leather on the big screen? Thankfully, Spider-Man put those worries to rest and we’ve been able to enjoy comic accurate costumes most of the time.
Thanks to DC Collectibles, we can now add Aquaman to the list of comic book movies with comic-accurate costumes. Along with some great Batman: The Animated Series figures earlier today, they released images of three 12-inch statues of Aquaman, Mera, and Black Manta that have us geared up for this December.
Here’s Jason Momoa as the King of the Seven Seas. Unlike the darker armor he wore in Justice League, this time he is wearing the bright orange and green we are accustomed to when we think of Aquaman. Not only that, but he’s also sporting a trident that has three prongs, making it an actual trident. Entertainment Weekly recently released an image of Aquaman’s “Sea Dragon” from the movie (as opposed to his Super Friends seahorse). Watching this Aquaman ride that creature will be nothing short of awesome.
Amber Heard’s Mera showed in Justice League she was a force to be reckoned with. This statue shows that it will continue in Aquaman. Looking amazing in her all-green body suit, Mera is ready to fight both Black Manta and Ocean Master’s forces, proving that she is MERA, and not AQUAWOMAN.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be playing the mortal enemy of Aquaman, Black Manta. When Manta was first announced as the villain, there was some concern as to whether they would replace his mask with something more practical. Luckily they stuck with the large mask that makes Black Manta look like the menacing villain he is.
These three statues will be released in November, a month before the movie. If James Wan and crew put together a film with the same hard work these statues received, fans will definitely have a great time.
