While we knew Justice League Europe member Crimson Fox would pop up in NBC’s superhero comedy series Powerless, we now have word that another DC Comics hero will appear in the pilot.
A new video interview with DC All Access revealed that the situation comedy half-hour series will also include an appearance by Jack O’Lantern; the DC Comics superhero, not the Marvel supervillain of the same name, obviously. Created in 1977 by E. Nelson Bridwell and Ramona Fradon, and first appearing in Super Friends #8, the character joined the DC Universe in 1982 in Bridwell's DC Comics Presents #46.
There were actually three Jack O’Lanterns, the original being Daniel Cormac, an Irish member of the Global Guardians (another superhero team). The other two were Marvin Noronsa and Daniel Cormac's cousin, Liam McHugh. The character possessed a mystical lantern given to him by a fairy (yep) that imbued him with several abilities, including the power of flight, flame projection, teleportation, illusion casting and enhanced strength, as well as the ability to create fogs.
In the first comedy series set in the universe of DC Comics, Vanessa Hudgens stars as Emily, a spunky young insurance adjuster specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused by the crime-fighting superheroes. It’s when she stands up to one of these larger-than-life figures (after an epic battle messes with her commute) that she accidentally becomes a cult ‘hero’ in her own right … even if it’s just to her group of lovably quirky co-workers. Now, while she navigates her normal, everyday life against an explosive backdrop, Emily might just discover that being a hero doesn’t always require superpowers.
Powerless stars Vanessa Hudgens (Sucker Punch), Danny Pudi (Community), Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Christina Kirk (A to Z) and Atlin Mitchell (The Twilight Saga) as the Crimson Fox. The TV series will be part of the DC Extended Universe and is expected to debut on NBC in midseason.
