The Legend of Wonder Woman has come to an abrupt end.
DC’s acclaimed Legend of Wonder Woman project has been digging into the origin of Diana and the Amazons for a while, but now the publisher has unceremoniously pulled the plug on the project.
Put together by Renae De Liz, the web-first series (a hardcover collection of Book 1 also recently hit shelves) was nominated for an Eisner Award and has proven a critical hit for Wonder Woman fans. No word yet on why DC would decide to pull the plug, though sales are obviously a common factor in these types of decisions (though De Liz says the hardcover was actually doing pretty well). Regardless, it’s always a shame when a great comic gets the ax.
If you’ve not tracked it down, Legend is an excellent take on Wonder Woman. With Christmas around the corner, Book 1 would make an excellent gift for the Wonder Woman fan in your life. It might never get a proper ending, but you can at least enjoy the ride. After breaking the news to fans, De Liz thanked readers and revealed several pieces of concept art for what would’ve been Book 2 of the story.
