DC has a ton of shows on television these days, and a few of them are beefing up their supporting casts this summer. So, what are the latest additions?

The CW’s hit series The Flash is expanding the family tree of Captain Cold, aka Leonard Snart (Wentworth Miller), with the addition of veteran actor Michael Ironside (Total Recall). Ironside will play Lewis Snart, Leonard’s father, who is set to guest-star in the second season’s third episode, “Family of Rogues.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, the character is described as a “cold-blooded, ruthless career criminal” who has recently been released from prison. Considering Miller’s Snart is set to take on a major role in the spinoff series Legends of Tomorrow, it’s not much of a shock to see the creative team start setting up some backstory now.

Over at CBS, Supergirl has made a new addition who should be familiar to DC fans. Peter Facinelli has signed on to play Maxwell Lord, a powerful businessman who played a key role in the formation of the Justice League (at least in the comic canon). In Supergirl, his character will be a “green tech billionaire” who is a friendly rival for Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart). Oh, and he’s also fascinated by National City’s latest superhero, Supergirl.

Both characters should make for interesting change-ups, and we’re especially excited to see the Snart family grow a little bigger on The Flash. With Snart set to transition from villain into antihero, it makes sense they’d start finding a way to soften the character up a bit. This should do the trick.

What do you think of the new casting additions?
