Variant covers are all the rage these days, and DC Comics is chiming in loudly with a very cool concept for its May 2015 variants, dipping into the rich legacy of films released mostly by its parent company, Warner Bros., for inspiration. Artists were asked to use a classic movie poster as their guide to design a special alternate cover that would act as a playful nod to both the DC monthly book and the memorable one-sheets used to promote each iconic film. The result is 22 pop-culture novelties arranged with incredible flair, synchronicity and detail, even down to the appropriate retro colors, character poses and title lettering.
Here they are, paired up side by side for your perusal with the source material of original posters from The Matrix, Wizard of Oz, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Westworld, The Lost Boys, Purple Rain, Mars Attacks, Enter the Dragon and many others. It's a mirrored mashup of comics and cinema we'd love to see much more of!
