If you look at DC's slate of current and upcoming films, the list is long: Justice League, Aquaman, Wonder Woman 2, and Shazam!, just to name a few. There's also talk of a sequel to Suicide Squad, a Joker movie, and, who knows, maybe we'll finally get that Wonder Twins movie we've all been hoping for.
But the strategy at DC may be changing a bit. According to Variety's Justin Kroll, Warner Bros. is waiting to see how Justice League does before making a decision on the Flash stand-alone film Flashpoint. While Ezra Miller's involvement is a given, the film lost its director and a new one hasn't been locked in.
There was talk recently that Wonder Woman would make an appearance in Flashpoint, which feels like they're trying to find the right formula, but holding off to see how JL performs may be the smartest thing right now. Looking to the comics, the story is a universe-bending thriller that could easily rewrite the entire reality of the DCEU — so, needless to say, it has the potential to be a big story if Warner Bros. decides to actually pull the trigger.
Considering all the things Justice League has been through and what it took to bring it to screen, taking a step back with standalones sounds like a smart idea, at least for this project. So if you want a Flash movie, you know what you need to do when Justice League opens. Front row center, y'all.
