We heard a while back that Warner Bros. was keen to get a project off the ground starring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, and now it sounds like it’ll feature a few other familiar faces for DC fans.
The Wrap reports Warner Bros. has hired screenwriter Christina Hodson to pen a treatment for a Harley Quinn film that would also feature heroes and villains from across the DC Universe. Some names apparently being floated include the Birds of Prey, plus “multiple female superheroes” and “possibly villains.” Obvious options would include Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Huntress, Black Canary and Wonder Woman. (Geek note: Fox's short-lived Birds of Prey series also featured a version of Harley Quinn, the characters' first live-action meeting.)
The film project is apparently still in the early stages, so all of that could change as it goes deeper into development. Hodson looks to be a forward-thinking hire, as she’s landed more than a few scripts of the Black List and has several buzzy projects in the works. She wrote the script for the Transformers spinoff film Bumblebee, plus The Eden Project and a reboot of The Fugitive.
This certainly sounds like an interesting project, but we wouldn’t start pre-ordering tickets just yet. With The Flash currently hunting for a director, rumors that Aquaman could be delayed, and Zack Snyder retooling the vibe of Justice League to make it less grim dark, the DC universe seems to be in a state of disarray. Pretty much the only DC film that seems to be on track is Wonder Woman, and we’re curious to see how much DC’s line-up could change if these issues persist.
Do you think Warner Bros. can pull off a legit girl-power DC film?
