DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has found its new Vixen. If you folks will recall, about two weeks ago we learned the character would be joining the crew of the Waverider as a series regular for the TV show’s forthcoming second season but that Megalyn E.K. (the current Vixen) couldn’t reprise the role due to scheduling conflicts.
The CW has now tapped Maisie Richardson-Sellers (The Originals, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) to play the new Vixen. However, instead of a straight recast, the actress will actually play a different incarnation of Vixen from an earlier timeline, 'cause TIME TRAVEL, you guys.
Richardson-Sellers will play Amaye Jiwe, the grandmother of Megalyn E.K.’s Mari Jiwe McCabe. This nifty little twist enables E.K. to continue to voice the character of Vixen in the online animated Vixen series and also leaves the door open for her live-action return on any of the Arrowverse series.
Created by writer Gerry Conway and artist Bob Oksner for DC Comics back in 1978, Mari McCabe, aka Vixen, was the latest in a long line of heroes who could assume the abilities of any animals on Earth thanks to powers derived from the Tantu Totem handed to them by African mythological hero Anansi. They also possess a healing factor that makes them pretty hard to kill.
Are you excited about the casting of Maisie Richardson-Sellers as the new Vixen and Mari McCabe's grandma? What do you think of the time-wimey twist? DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns Oct. 13 on The CW.
