With Starfire and Raven already cast, the new Titans TV series has found its leader as well.

Australian actor Brenton Thwaites has signed on to play Dick Grayson in Titans, which Warner Bros. TV will debut in 2018 as part of a new DC-focused streaming service. Thwaites joins Anna Diop as Starfire and Teagan Croft as Raven, with casting for characters like Beast Boy and whichever other team members they decide to use yet to come.

Thwaites was seen this past summer as the son of Orlando Bloom's character in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, but his film credits include The Giver, Gods of Egypt, Maleficent, and Oculus. Although he broke out on TV in his native country, Titans will be his first U.S. job on the small screen.

DC Entertainment's Geoff Johns said, "Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have. Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protege and the Titans’ future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character."

Johns is writing the show alongside Greg Berlanti (Arrow) and Akiva Goldsman and it will likely follow the general origin story of a team of young superheroes coming together for the first time. Which permutation of the team we'll end up watching remains to be seen, as well as whether Titans will cross over with The CW's Arrowverse (though Berlanti's involvement is certainly worth noting there).

Titans has been long in development and was once slated to air on TNT. Those plans were scrapped last year, but it's evident that DC and WB are heavily invested in making this project happen one way or another.

What do you think of Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson?
