As the DC Extended Universe ramps up production on its constellation of properties, the floodgates may be starting to open on fresh casting information for New Line’s Shazam! — the next film on deck in the DCEU calendar.

Following word earlier today that Kingsman: The Golden Circle’s Mark Strong is in talks to play Doctor Sivana, the movie’s main villain, Variety has reported that Grace Fulton is in negotiations to play alongside lead Shazam! actor Zachary Levi in a supporting role.

Fulton, who also played the supporting role of the orphan Carol in the generally well-received suspense creeper Annabelle: Creation this past summer, would be cast as a friend to Billy Batson, the boy who summons the power of the ancients by transforming into a grown-up superhero whenever he utters the acronym “Shazam!” — short for Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury.

Variety isn’t going out on a limb with speculation over which of Batson’s “friends” Fulton could play, but there's early speculation that she could be fitted onto a character based on Mary Marvel, Billy’s canonical sister.

Currently in pre-production, production on the David Sandberg-helmed feature is slated to start in February of next year, with a release target of April 2019. DC has announced Shazam! will be the first of two films to draw from the same lore, with Black Adam, a villainous vehicle for lead actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, meant to follow close behind.
