Deadpool 2 adds The Strain alum as villain, possibly Black Tom Cassidy

Ryan Reynolds may go toe to toe with a classic X-Men baddie in Deadpool 2. According to Deadline, The Strain alum Jack Kesy has come on board director David Leitch’s (John Wick) comic book movie as a “major villain.”

Although it’s not been entirely confirmed as of yet which character Kesy will portray, sources indicate he’ll play Black Tom Cassidy, an X-Men villain created by Chris Claremont and artist Dave Cockrum back in 1976.

An Irish-born mutant, Black Tom can “manipulate, bond with, and project energy through plant life.” The black sheep of a well-to-do family, he was also X-Men Sean Cassidy's, aka Banshee, cousin. The character could also create “concussive blasts with a wooden object, usually a shillelagh.” Even though primarily an X-Men antagonist, Black Tom Cassidy has faced off against the Merc With a Mouth a few times over the years. He was also Juggernaut's partner and friend.

Jack Kesy will star alongside Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Josh Brolin as Cable, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapacic as Colossus and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

Deadpool 2 is slated for a June 1, 2018, release. What do you think of the casting news?
