Deadpool 2 is a film packed with post-credits moments, but there were even more scenes we never got to see.
Ryan Reynolds' second solo adventure as the Merc with a Mouth is one of the most talked-about genre films of the year, so much so that Fox has embarked on a genuine Oscar campaign for it. That campaign got more substantial over the weekend when Academy members headed to the Fox lot for a screening of the film, complete with a Q&A featuring Reynolds and co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Even after months of discussing the film, it turns out the trio still had a few revelations left to share, including even more unused moments from Wade's time travel adventure during the film's closing credits.
According to Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld, who was in attendance at the screening (and noted that many Academy members seemed to be seeing the film for the first time), Reynolds, Reese, and Wernick revealed that the credits sequence almost included Deadpool "peeing on Shatterstar's grave," another appearance from Deadpool's sugar bear Peter (Rob Delaney) who would have shown up with a prosthetic arm, and the assembly of a new X-Force team, though it's unclear who would have made the squad the second time around.
As fans of the film will no doubt remember, the film's credits sequence featured Deadpool borrowing Cable's time-travel device after Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Yukio repaired it. He used it to save Vanessa, then decided to clean up the timeline in all sorts of ways, including killing his own past self from X-Men Origins: Wolverine and killing "Ryan Reynolds" just before he was able to make Green Lantern. In the months since the film's release we've learned that the sequence also almost included a sequence in which Deadpool visited baby Hitler, and now we know about even more time travel gems from the cutting room floor.
Oh, and even with the looming Disney acquisition, the filmmakers also confirmed that talk of Deadpool 3 is still happening, so much so that Wernick pitched Reynolds a "fresh take" on the third installment the day of the screening.
Deadpool returns to theaters December 13 with the Fred Savage-co-starring, PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2, Once Upon a Deadpool.
