It’s been a long wait, but Deadpool is finally coming back to the big screen — and it looks like this version of the Merc With a Mouth will hopefully set things right.
Despite the fact that Deadpool is one of the most popular characters in the X-Men catalog, the awfulness of X-Men Origins: Wolverine made it seem like he’d never get another shot at the big screen. There’s no denying the upcoming Deadpool film has a ton of heavy lifting to do to get things back on track.
Well, filming is officially underway, and we can report things are definitely looking good. One tight shot of Reynolds’ face has surfaced, showing off Wade Wilson’s trademark scars. It looks like they’ll be telling the true comic origin of Wade Wilson, his superhuman healing and battle with cancer that left him scarred underneath that mask. Of course, in X-Men Origins, they basically just turned the character into a one-note baddie and sewed his mouth shut. Because, whatever.
Along with that impressive shot above, a handful of additional set pics have surfaced, showing off an action set piece that should look somewhat familiar to fans who’ve already seen that leaked test reel footage from a while back. It seems they’ll be reworking and reshooting some of that car chase for the actual film, which looks fantastic here.
Check out some of those shots below and let us know what you think:
Deadpool, which we recently learned should be rated R, opens Feb. 12, 2016.
